Nim, a game to improve in math

Nim is an ancient strategy game, is said to have originated in China, has versions for children or adults.

It is a game for two people and mainly consists of removing objects (rocks, coins, matches, etc.) placed on a surface, separated into rows or groups. In each turn the player must remove at least one item of each group but can not remove objects from different groups.

Here I put some variations:

Option 1 (for primary):

The two players placed on the playing surface 11 chips. Each player folds, in turn, one or two sheets from the pile. Win the game that they take the last chip.

Option 2 (for primary):

The two players placed on the playing surface 11 separate cards into 2 groups. Each player in turn withdrawn, one, two or three tabs in a single group. Win the game that they take the last chip.

Option 3 (for secondary):

The two players placed on the pitch nine separate tabs in 3 rows. Each player in turn withdrawn, one or more cards in a single row. Win the game that they take the last chip.

Option 4 (for secondary):

Like the previous case but loses the game the person who is forced to remove the last chip.

There is an interesting version of Nim on Flash Games .

Can you discover the strategy to win?

Note to teachers:

You might wonder how this game helps them learn math. Rather than learn math, strategy games used to develop the ability to solve problems of students and how this capability is necessary to solve math problems, these games raise the level of students in mathematics.
